Danish oil is one of my favorite varnish blends.
I use it to polish bases of furniture, antiques, and on newly made pieces. You wipe it on with a cloth, and wait a few minutes, then wipe off the excess.
Danish oil has a satin sheen, and it does take a long time to cure. Usually by the next day it is dry, and able to be handled. It does have a smell to it, and will continue to smell until it is dry. Most do not use a respirator to apply it, but I do. It gives me a headache, if I am applying the finish to several pieces.
You can get it in a variety of colors, so make sure to get a color close to what you want.
For example if it is an old walnut antique, get light, medium, or dark walnut. There is not much water resistance in this finish, so it is best not to put it on a dining table top. Also make sure to wipe off the excess, otherwise it will get soft, and gummy.
